What is the distinction between Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcies?

Chapter 7 bankruptcy will eliminate all of your debts except student loans, child support and alimony, and some taxes. It is intended for those with limited assets and income.

Chapter 13 bankruptcy is a repayment plan whereby you repay all or a portion of your debts (usually a small portion) over a period of 3–5 years. It is intended for those with larger assets and above-median income.
